Carleton Place Bike-Share Program Looks to Boost Summer Tourism
Carleton Place, a charming town in Ontario, is gearing up for a summer of tourism with its revamped bike-sharing program. The Carleton Place and District Chamber of Commerce has invested in four new cruiser bicycles to breathe new life into the program, which has been active for several summers. With construction in the downtown area now completed, the town is eager to become a popular destination for day trips and mini-vacations.
According to Jackie Kavanagh, director at the Chamber of Commerce, the bike-sharing program is an affordable and convenient way for tourists to explore the area. People who are traveling and don’t necessarily want to bring their own bikes with them can easily embark on an excursion using our bikes, she explains. Carleton Place has become one of Ontario’s fastest-growing towns, and its extensive network of trails makes it accessible to visitors arriving by both four wheels and two.
From Carleton Place, visitors can set off in any direction and enjoy a day or even a few days of cycling. Kavanagh suggests cycling to nearby attractions like Smiths Falls and Almonte or exploring the numerous parks and beaches that Carleton Place itself offers. The town’s mayor, Toby Randell, emphasizes that with a revitalized downtown and a growing reputation for its food scene, tourism is a top priority this summer. We have a lot of great restaurants downtown and options for food. Music is always going on, and our weekends are getting busier, he says.
The bikes, which were purchased locally from Joe Momma Cycles, are available for rent at reasonable rates. Interested individuals can rent the bikes for $5 an hour, $10 for four hours, or $20 for a full day. Paisley Woods of Joe Momma Cycles assures prospective riders that the bikes are comfortable and can be easily adjusted for riders of varying heights and sizes.
Carleton Place has always been a popular cycling destination, drawing visitors from nearby Ottawa and beyond. Even from Ottawa, people come out for the day, park their cars, and go for a ride, Woods adds. With the new bike-sharing program, the town aims to attract even more cycling enthusiasts and tourists, welcoming them to explore the beauty and charm Carleton Place has to offer.
To rent one of the bikes, individuals can visit the Carleton Place and District Chamber of Commerce, conveniently located at 170 Bridge Street. With its affordable rates and convenient location, the bike-sharing program is set to pedal summer tourism in Carleton Place into high gear. So why not hop on a bicycle and embark on an exciting adventure through this picturesque town and its scenic surroundings? Whether it’s a leisurely day trip or a multi-day excursion, Carleton Place offers a cycling experience that shouldn’t be missed.
