Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a leading Fortune Global 500 company, has announced its support for a healthcare initiative that aims to provide cochlear implantation surgeries for 30 underprivileged children in Maharashtra. This initiative is part of BPCL’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and its focus on the area of Health & Sanitation.
Cochlear implantation is a procedure that can greatly enhance hearing for individuals who have suffered inner-ear damage and are unable to benefit from external hearing aids. The program is led by the Indorewala Memorial Educational & Medical Institute & Research Centre (IMEMIRC). Its primary goal is to offer early intervention and prevention of hearing loss among economically disadvantaged children who are born deaf.
IMEMIRC is an organization that operates the ‘Indorewala ENT Hospital’ in Nashik, which is a renowned center for cochlear implant surgeries in North Maharashtra. The hospital has been empanelled under the Central Government’s Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchasing/Fitting of Aids/Appliances (ADIP) Scheme since 2016, which supports cochlear implant surgeries.
As part of the initiative, BPCL and IMEMIRC will provide free or low-cost services to the beneficiaries. The children will undergo comprehensive medical examinations, including audiological, radiological, and psychological evaluations, to determine their suitability for the surgery. Cochlear implant surgeons will be consulted to determine the best course of action for each child.
To mark the occasion, Sanjay Manjrekar, former cricketer and Indian cricket commentator, attended the event as the chief guest. Manjrekar interacted with the children who have already undergone the surgery and those who are scheduled to undergo it, sharing his own experiences and imparting words of inspiration.
