Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) has recently launched a Monsoon Trekking program in an effort to attract more tourists and boost tourism in the state’s hinterland areas. The program offers a unique opportunity for visitors to explore the scenic beauty of Goa during the monsoon season while engaging in trekking activities.

GTDC Chairman, Ganesh Gaonkar, expressed the importance of ensuring the safety and enjoyment of tourists participating in monsoon trekking. He emphasized the concept of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava,’ which promotes treating guests as gods, and highlighted the need for locals to benefit from employment opportunities generated by the program.

As part of the state government’s focus on hinterland tourism, Gaonkar advised tourists to undertake trekking activities safely. To further encourage visitors, here are some of the top monsoon treks in Goa:

1. Sonsogor Trek: This trek takes you to the top of Sonsogor, one of the three highest peaks in Goa. It offers a breathtaking view and takes approximately 2-3 hours to complete.

2. Dudhsagar Trek: Dudhsagar, Goa’s most popular waterfall and the fifth tallest in India, is a sight to behold during the monsoon season. The trek takes you through the dense forests of the Western Ghats and promises awe-inspiring views.

3. Hiveram Trek: Hiveram Falls, a relatively unexplored part of Goa, offers a trek that includes steep slopes. It is recommended for trekkers with some experience, and the trail provides access to three waterfalls that can be covered in a single day.

4. Pali Waterfall Trek: This trek leads to another picturesque waterfall in Goa. Although the path may become slippery during monsoons, trekkers are undeterred by the challenge, as the journey takes them deep into Goa’s densest forest areas.

For those seeking offbeat experiences, visiting Goa during the monsoons is highly recommended. The best time to visit the state, however, is between November and March. During the monsoon season, certain beaches that remain open include Baga and Candolim in the north, and Colva and Cavelossim in the south.

By offering a range of exciting monsoon treks, Goa aims to provide visitors with a unique and adventurous way to explore its natural beauty. The initiative not only promotes tourism but also creates employment opportunities for locals. With a focus on safety and enjoyment, Goa Tourism Development Corporation is dedicated to ensuring that every tourist visiting the state has a memorable and fulfilling experience.
