The passenger, a 43-year-old woman from the Republic of Burundi, was arrested after arriving in Hyderabad from Nairobi via Sharjah on July 2. The drugs were concealed in the walls and layers of her dresses, handbag, and soaps.
The diligent and alert officers of Hyderabad Customs identified the suspect based on passenger profiling and careful observation. Upon examination of her baggage, it was discovered that several items, including traditional African dresses, a ladies’ handbag, and soaps, were unusually heavy. Further inspection revealed hidden black or clear plastic packets containing a brownish white powder, later confirmed as heroin.
The arrested passenger has been remanded to judicial custody under the NDPS Act, 1985.
