Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh recently chaired a meeting of the Combined Headquarters (CHQ) in Manipur to discuss important security matters in the state. The meeting was attended by senior officers from the state government, Indian Army, and Para Military forces. The aim of the meeting was to address the prevailing situation in Manipur and take necessary steps to stop the violence, especially in the foothills along the valley.

In terms of the current situation, the curfew in the West Imphal district has been relaxed from 5 am to 6 pm on Monday. This decision was made after Chief Minister Biren Singh inspected the ground situation in the hills adjoining Bishnupur-Churachandpur on Sunday. The District Magistrate issued an order stating that there has been considerable improvement in law and order in the district, and therefore the restriction of movement needs to be lifted to allow the general public to purchase essential items such as medicines and food.

It is important to note that the violence in Manipur began nearly two months ago on May 3, following clashes during a rally organized by the All Tribal Students Union (ATSU). The rally was held to protest against the demand for the inclusion of Meiteis in the list of Scheduled Tribes (STs). Since then, the Assam Rifles have evacuated over 50,000 displaced persons from all communities affected by the violence. These individuals have been provided with safe passage, shelter, food, and medical assistance.

The news of the meeting chaired by Chief Minister Biren Singh comes after an assurance from Home Minister Shah on June 24 that peace will be restored in the state. However, opposition parties have raised concerns about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the matter during the all-party meeting on the violence in Manipur.

The government’s focus on addressing the current situation and ensuring the safety and well-being of the people of Manipur is evident through the series of meetings and decisions being taken. The Combined Headquarters meeting serves as a platform for relevant stakeholders to come together and discuss security matters, paving the way for improved coordination and action.

The lifting of the curfew in the West Imphal district showcases the improving conditions and the authorities’ efforts to restore normalcy. By allowing the general public to resume their daily activities and access essential items, the government aims to rebuild confidence and provide relief to the affected population.

In conclusion, Manipur’s Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s recent meeting with the Combined Headquarters highlights the government’s commitment to addressing the prevailing security situation in the state. The decision to relax the curfew in the West Imphal district further underscores the improving conditions and the government’s efforts to restore normalcy. As the government continues to address the root causes of the violence and work towards sustainable peace, the focus remains on the safety and well-being of the people of Manipur.
