Tottenham Secures Deal for Premier League Star on Free Transfer

Tottenham Hotspur has reportedly reached an agreement to sign Israeli winger Manor Solomon on a free transfer. The 23-year-old, who was on loan at Fulham from Shakhtar Donetsk last season, impressed with four goals in 19 Premier League games under manager Marco Silva. Now, it appears Solomon is set for an immediate return to the Premier League with Tottenham.

Since the arrival of new manager Ange Postecoglou from Celtic, Tottenham has been active in the transfer market. They have already made four signings, including making loan deals for Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro permanent. Additionally, the club has paid significant fees for goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and playmaker James Maddison.

Solomon still has one year remaining on his contract with Shakhtar Donetsk. However, due to the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by Russia, he is able to utilize a FIFA rule that allows foreigners in either country to unilaterally suspend their contracts. This rule means that Solomon can effectively join Tottenham for free now, and his ties to Shakhtar will end entirely next summer.

However, Shakhtar Donetsk has not taken kindly to Solomon’s decision and has threatened legal action. Chief executive Sergei Palkin stated that he has reached out to both Solomon and his agent, inviting them back to the club. Palkin claims to have offered Solomon a place in the starting eleven for Champions League games. Nevertheless, Solomon has expressed a desire to remain in England. Palkin has vowed to take Tottenham to court over what he perceives as unjust enrichment, as Shakhtar paid a significant sum for the player.

Palkin also issued a warning to other clubs attempting to sign their players without paying a transfer fee. He stated that Shakhtar will file claims for unjust enrichment against any players or clubs who have benefited financially from their players without fair compensation.

It remains to be seen how this situation will unfold, but it is clear that Shakhtar Donetsk is determined to defend its interests. Tottenham Hotspur, on the other hand, seems to have secured a talented winger in Manor Solomon while avoiding a transfer fee. As the story continues to develop, more details will likely emerge regarding Solomon’s future and the potential legal battle between the two clubs.
