Injured cricketer Nathan Lyon has expressed no regrets about risking further damage to his torn calf in order to bat in the second Ashes Test against England at Lord’s. The off-spinner had been unable to participate in the Test since sustaining what is likely to be a series-ending calf injury during fielding on Thursday. However, Lyon made a courageous appearance towards the end of Australia’s second innings, hopping down the Pavilion steps and onto the pitch. Despite being unable to walk properly, he hit one four and stayed on the pitch for 13 balls in a last-wicket partnership of 15 with Mitchell Starc. Lyon’s efforts could be crucial to Australia’s chances of winning the second Test. The 35-year-old, who clearly took risks with his health, stated that he would do the same thing again to help the team. He said, I will do anything for this team. I knew the risks. It was my call. I wanted to bat. You never know how big a 15-run partnership can be in an Ashes series. I was proud of myself but if it was tomorrow I would do it again. I love this team. Lyon will find out on Sunday if there is any possibility of him playing in the remaining matches of the series, but it seemingly remains unlikely.
