The Kerala unit of Congress has called for a probe into the alleged plot by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI(M) to eliminate K. Sudhakaran, the incumbent state party president. The demand comes after former journalist G. Sakthidharan claimed in a Facebook post that a plot had been hatched to kill Sudhakaran several years ago.
Sakthidharan’s explosive revelation has caused a stir within the political landscape of Kerala, with senior Congress leader M. Liju and others requesting police protection for him due to the abuses and threats he has received since making the claims. Liju has argued that a proper investigation should take place as Sakthidharan’s information comes from someone who was aware of the happenings in the CPI(M) at the time.
Sudhakaran, who had previously made his own allegations against a CPI(M) leader without explicitly naming anyone, responded to the claims by asserting that he is not surprised, as the CPI(M) has long harbored ill intentions towards him. He stated, I wish to tell the CPI(M) that they will not be able to take my life as I am a strong believer in God. Only when God decides, it will happen. Sudhakaran expressed gratitude to Sakthidharan, whom he has never met or spoken to.
Congress MP Benny Behanan has registered a complaint and demanded an investigation into the matter. The Congress party seems eager to use Sakthidharan’s revelations to their advantage, as Sudhakaran and the CPI(M)’s Kannur unit, as well as top leaders such as Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, have been engaged in a longstanding feud.
Sudhakaran, however, expressed skepticism about taking legal action, considering Pinarayi Vijayan’s position as Chief Minister. He stated, With Vijayan at the helm, there is no use in giving a complaint, and perhaps I will speak to my counsel to see if any legal steps are necessary.
The demand for a probe into the alleged plot adds another layer of tension to an already contentious political situation in Kerala. It remains to be seen how this revelation will impact the dynamics between the Congress party and the CPI(M), and whether an investigation will be launched to uncover the truth behind these claims.
