Union Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs and Culture, Meenakshi Lekhi, has emphasized the importance of the Indian way as the path forward for progress and survival of humanity. Lekhi made these remarks during the inauguration of an exhibition called Banking on World Heritage, held at the Darshanam Gallery of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts.
The exhibition, curated by Rukmini Dahanukar, showcases banknotes from G-20 member nations featuring UNESCO-listed World Heritage Sites. This exhibition is part of the ongoing G20 Summit celebrations and will run until July 9th.
Lekhi expressed her belief that the Indian way, encapsulated in the phrase Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, is essential for global progress and the survival of humanity. She also stressed the significance of currency notes as a source of historical and cultural knowledge, highlighting their ability to connect people with their past.
During the panel discussion at the exhibition’s inauguration, Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi, Member Secretary of IGNCA, emphasized the importance of banknotes and coins as invaluable sources for understanding our global history. Sudhakar Raza praised the exhibition, highlighting its unique concept and the effort put into selecting the images on banknotes.
The exhibition’s curator, Rukmini Dahanukar, described it as an amalgamation of art, design, history, heritage, and culture. She noted the beauty of banknotes, which not only hold economic value but also showcase cultural significance. The banknotes featured in the exhibition include values written in 17 Indian languages.
