Hyderabad man detained for alleged links with ISKP suspect
A man from Hyderabad has been detained by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Gujarat police, on suspicion of having links with another detainee who is accused of being part of the Islamic State of Khorasan Province (ISKP). The arrest came after the Gujarat ATS detained a woman from Surat, identified as Sumera Banu Malek, who was allegedly in touch with the Hyderabad man online. Banu was arrested earlier this month, along with some ISKP literature and electronic gadgets seized by the ATS.
Following information supplied by Banu, three men from Srinagar were arrested by the ATS in Porbandar and were identified as Ubaid Nasir Mir, Hanan Hayat Shawl, and Mohammad Hajim Shah. The three men were allegedly planning to travel to Afghanistan via Iran. Another man from Srinagar, Zubair Ahmed Munshi, was arrested later because of his links with Banu. Based on the information provided by Banu and Munshi, the Hyderabad man was detained and is currently being questioned at an undisclosed location in Hyderabad.
The Islamic State of Khorasan Province (ISKP) is an affiliate of Islamic State, and has been active in South and Central Asia. The Gujarat ATS has been working hard to tackle the presence of the group in India.
