A group of Shiv Sena (UBT) activists have been remanded in judicial custody until July 11 after attacking a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officer during a protest. The Vakola Police Station has booked approximately 24 people, including former minister Anil Parab, for allegedly slapping and roughing up the official after a protest march to the H-East Ward Office. The four arrested activists have been named as Sada Parab, Haji Alim Khan, Santosh Kadam and Uday Dalvi, while the police are seeking to detain the others. Reports suggest that the Sena (UBT) was protesting the bulldozing of an illegal party branch office in Bandra East, which had been led by the Assistant Engineer who was later assaulted. Sena (UBT) Deputy Leader and Spokesperson Sushma Andhare criticized the selective enforcement of the law and questioned why no action has been taken against other politicians who assaulted officials. The Shiv Sena (UBT) has planned a large procession led by Aditya Thackeray on July 1 to protest against alleged corruption in the BMC.
