Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) has announced its online application process for the MSc biotechnology programme for the academic year 2023-24. This programme is open only to candidates who have cleared the Graduate Aptitude Test for Biotechnology (GAT-B) entrance exam. The university has notified that candidates who wish to enroll in the course must apply through the official website of the university. Upon registering online, candidates must upload all of their necessary documents, including a passport-sized photograph, GAT-B scorecard, signature, and other relevant certificates. Admission to the programme is based on the GAT-B score and is subject to the reservation policy and norms of the central government. The last date for applying for the course is July 7, 15 days after the GAT-B exam results are declared.
In 2020, the Government of India (GOI) gave approval for MKU to continue and develop its MSc biotechnology course for five more years. The department of biotechnology under the GOI extended the course, leading to an increased level of interest in the programme. Several graduates of the MSc biotechnology programme apply for doctorate degrees or fellowships abroad upon completion.
MKU has also informed that Dr. Sankar Natesan, the Chairperson, Professor, and Head of the Department of Genetic Engineering, School of Biotechnology, is available for further queries regarding the programme at chairperson.sbt@mkuniversity.ac.in. The sanctioned strength for the course is 30 seats, and admission is highly competitive and based solely on the GAT-B scores.
The online application process is the first step to securing a seat at MKU for this prestigious course. Candidates are advised to ensure that they submit their full application by the deadline. As the MSc biotechnology programme starts up for another year, MKU has taken proactive measures to ensure the continuity of the course in the future.
