Police in Meghalaya, India, are planning to use drones to monitor traffic congestion in the state capital. Currently, traffic personnel man 56 junctions across the city in two shifts to try to ease congestion. However, drones could provide a more efficient solution. Meghalaya’s DGP Dr LR Bishnoi said the city was trying to decongest, and drones have been suggested as a way to do this. Dr Bishnoi said a team of traffic officers would investigate how drones could help and training would be necessary once plans were finalised. The authorities could also introduce bus corridors and alternative modes of transport. Odd-even policies for taxis may be implemented in the busiest areas.
