The Gujarat police have arrested a drug convict, Salman Zaveri, near the Nepal border as he attempted to escape to the country after jumping parole in a drug case. Zaveri, who had been granted interim bail for ten days, instead went into hiding instead of returning to jail. The Surat police apprehended him in Haviganda, Kishanganj, Bihar, just before he could cross the border into Nepal.
According to the investigation, Zaveri had reached the Nepal border through Mumbai, with plans to flee to a foreign country. The arrest was carried out by the Surat police.
Salman Zaveri, also known as Aman Mohammad Hanif Zaveri, had come under the radar in September 2020 when the police discovered six packets containing various kinds of MD drugs in his car. The police seized 1 kg and 11.82 grams of MD drugs worth Rs 1,01,18,2000, along with five mobile phones totaling Rs 38,000, cash worth Rs 12,710, two digital weight scales, and a car worth Rs 2.50 lakh.
Following his arrest, the Surat Police lodged him in Lajpore jail. Zaveri’s reputation as a convicted drug dealer precedes him, and this latest arrest has him in even deeper legal trouble.
