Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s visit to the Maharashtra pilgrimage town of Pandharpur sparked a response from Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, who called Rao’s Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) a B-team of BJP.
Raut’s statement came after Rao and his cabinet colleagues arrived on Monday in a motorcade with 600 vehicles. On Tuesday, the Chief Minister offered prayers at the Vitthal Rukmini temple ahead of Ashadhi Ekadashi on June 29.
During his visit, Rao addressed a rally in Sarkoli village, some 20 km from Pandharpur. He challenged Raut’s claims, highlighting that the BRS was a team of farmers, marginalized communities, minorities, and Dalits. He also queried why there was a hue and cry over his party’s efforts to expand its base in the neighboring state.
The Shiv Sena leader’s comments came as political tensions continue to rise between the BJP and Shiv Sena in Maharashtra over the allocation of cabinet portfolios after the 2019 Maharashtra assembly election.
Despite the tension, Rao’s visit has been well received by the farming community, minorities, and Dalits. The Telangana Chief Minister’s visit is seen as an attempt to strengthen political relations and promote fair representation of marginalized communities in Maharashtra.
