On Tuesday, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) workers gathered outside Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence to protest against the mismanagement of coaching institutes in the national capital. However, the Delhi police detained the ABVP workers during the protest.

The protest was a result of a fire that broke out on June 15 in a coaching center located in Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar. The incident resulted in at least 61 people being admitted to three hospitals. According to reports, there were around 200-250 students present in the coaching center at the time of the incident, which raised concerns over the safety regulations in coaching centers.

The Delhi High Court took cognizance of the incident on June 16 after noticing the newspaper reports and WhatsApp messages circulating on social media. The court issued a notice to Delhi Government, Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, and the MCD and requested a response within two weeks. The court also sought appropriate orders or directions from the bench of the Chief Justice on July 3.

The incident highlights the need for the Delhi government to take appropriate safety measures in coaching centers. Delhi’s education minister, Manish Sisodia, promised a strict crackdown against such coaching centers after the incident. He instructed officials to inspect the safety and fire standards of coaching centers in Delhi.

ABVP workers and other student organizations have been calling to improve the standards of coaching centers in Delhi for a long time. The incident has further fueled their protests, and they are demanding more action from the government in ensuring the safety and security of students in coaching centers.

Overall, the incident in Mukherjee Nagar has raised serious concerns over the implementation of safety regulations in coaching centers. The Delhi government must take appropriate measures to ensure that such incidents are not repeated in the future. The protests by the ABVP workers and student organizations provide an opportunity for the government to take appropriate actions and implement necessary safety standards in coaching centers.
