SK Telecom Co., a leading South Korean mobile carrier, reported a 16 percent increase in operating profit for the second quarter driven by growth in major businesses. The company’s operating profit reached 537.5 billion won, with sales rising 2.7 percent to 4.42 trillion won.
The mobile business performed strongly, with over 70 percent of subscriptions now on the fifth-generation communications network. Roaming service subscribers also saw a 37 percent increase to 1.23 million.
Sales from the enterprise unit climbed 11 percent, data centers saw a 20.5 percent jump in sales, and revenue from the cloud business advanced 28 percent.
SK Telecom plans to enhance its AI business competitiveness in the second half, focusing on AI data centers and services. With investments in AI-related firms like Lambda, Perplexity, and Smart Global Holdings, the company aims to solidify its position as a global AI player.
The company’s net profit slightly increased by 0.7 percent to 350.2 billion won, surpassing market expectations. Analysts had estimated a net profit of 346.2 billion won for the quarter.
