The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai and Palghar for the next 24 hours, while Thane has been placed under a yellow alert. This announcement was made on June 26, as the IMD predicts active monsoon conditions to continue for the next three to four days in Maharashtra.
Maharashtra residents should brace themselves for heavy rainfall with downpours expected in parts of Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha. On June 26, the monsoon affected most of Maharashtra, with heavy precipitation in isolated areas such as the Konkan and Ghat regions of Madhya Maharashtra.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the Mumbai city region received 31mm of rainfall while the Eastern Suburbs recorded 54mm and the Western Suburbs saw 59mm, until 8 pm on June 26.
The BMC has advised residents to take precautions and be prepared during this monsoon season, particularly during the next 24 hours. Waves measuring up to 3.12 meters were observed during the high tide, hence, it is important for residents to take note and stay cautious.
This is an opportunity for Mumbai residents to enjoy the respite from the heat that the dark clouds and rainfall have brought about. Despite this, the BMC advises residents to take extra precautionary measures to ensure their safety during the impending heavy rainfall.
