The Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh has recently launched the ‘Varasat Abhiyan’ campaign to address land and revenue-related disputes in the state. In just under a month, the campaign has settled over 1,23,733 pending inheritance-related cases that were previously unaddressed for years. The campaign specifically aims to settle disputes by identifying the legal heirs of properties by looking through old records, thus bringing clarity and finality to these cases.
The campaign is being conducted in all gram sabhas of the state and will continue until July 31st. While most land dispute cases are heard on ‘Tehsil Day’ in every district of the state, a significant portion of such disputes are also included in police records. Therefore, the campaign aims to curb land conflicts and control the high-handed behavior of Tehsil employees.
Under the Varasat Abhiyan campaign, the Yogi government aims to dispose of 100% of undisputed inheritance pending cases in the state. Furthermore, the government seeks to get the names of legal heirs registered in Khatauni (old records) during the campaign. So far, over 1,33,516 applications have been received, out of which over 1,23,733 cases have been disposed of since May 30th.
The Varasat Abhiyan has been a great initiative in providing legal successors their physical rights over properties in time, reducing unnecessary revenue disputes, and curbing illegal occupation of land by land mafias and anti-social elements. It also assists in maintaining terrestrial rights-related law and order.
While the campaign has been able to settle a significant number of pending cases in a short period, issues of land and revenue disputes have persisted for years. However, the campaign has brought much-needed clarity to the resolution of these disputes in a timely manner.
The Yogi government’s ‘Varasat Abhiyan’ campaign is a significant step towards the efficient resolution of land and revenue-related disputes in the state. It not only brings relief to the rightful heirs of properties but also contributes to maintaining peace and security in the state.
