The All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) in Mysuru claims that admissions to degree colleges have dropped this year due to the sudden introduction of the National Education Policy-2020 (NEP). AIDSO members held a demonstration in front of the Crawford Hall at the University of Mysore on Monday to demand that the scietific introduction of the new education policy be withdrawn.

In addition to their demands, AIDSO members also requested that institutions of higher learning not be made autonomous. This would ensure that higher education institutions in the government sector receive the necessary facilities and resources.

AIDSO also urged the government to fill vacant teaching posts at the University of Mysore and improve facilities for students at the Maharani’s College. A government engineering college was also requested in Mysuru.

President of the AIDSO Mysuru committee, Subhash, accused the NEP of being responsible for the drop in admissions due to the rise in fees and making institutions autonomous. He argued that these policies would deprive poor students of higher education opportunities.

The AIDSO also requested that the city’s bus services be increased and match the college timings so that students benefit from them. They also demanded the provision of adequate hostels proportional to the number of students.

In conclusion, AIDSO is seeking a complete withdrawal of the NEP, and the strengthening of government-run higher education institutions. Students could benefit from an increase in bus services and hostels as well as a new government engineering college, according to AIDSO.

As of yet, there has been no response from the government regarding AIDSO’s appeals. This developing story reflects the ongoing debate over the new National Education Policy-2020 and the impact it has on students in India.
