The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced plans to bring a no-confidence motion against the Congress government in Chhattisgarh during the upcoming monsoon session of the state Assembly. The move comes amid concerns over scams and deteriorating law and order under the Bhupesh Baghel government. The opposition party’s Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Narayan Chandel told reporters that the government will be cornered on multiple issues during the 17th session of the fifth Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, set to be held from July 18 to July 21, with four sittings.

The BJP’s decision is likely to create a stir in the state’s political circles. The no-confidence motion, if successful, would lead to the ouster of the Baghel government, which came to power in December 2018 with a thumping victory over the BJP. The move would also create new opportunities for the BJP to regain power in the state, which it ruled from 2003 to 2018.

The upcoming monsoon session of the Assembly is expected to see heated debates and discussions on a range of issues, including the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the state’s economy, agriculture, and education sectors. The session is also expected to see confrontations between the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP on issues such as farmer welfare, employment generation, and infrastructure development.

The BJP, which is keen to make a comeback in the state’s politics, has expressed confidence that the no-confidence motion will be passed during the Assembly session. However, the Congress party has downplayed the move, saying that the government enjoys the support of a majority of legislators in the Assembly.

As the political drama unfolds, it remains to be seen whether the BJP’s no-confidence motion will be successful in toppling the Baghel government or if the Congress will be able to withstand the opposition’s onslaught and hold onto power in the state.
