Excessive Heat Warning in Riverside County for Triple-Digit Temperatures, US

Riverside County is in for more triple-digit temperatures throughout the week, prompting the National Weather Service to issue an excessive heat warning in some areas. The heat warning will be effective until at least 8 p.m. Friday in the areas of Palm Springs, Coachella, Palm Desert, Palm Desert Country, La Quinta, Cathedral City, Banning, Desert Hot Springs, and Indio. Temperatures in these areas were expected to range from 110 to 118. High temperatures will decrease slightly on Monday, but a much longer heat wave begins Tuesday with highs slowly increasing through next weekend, forecasters said. Authorities reminded the public to never leave pets or children inside vehicles on hot days. Locked cars can turn into death traps in mere seconds. The South Coast Air Quality Management District issued a wildfire smoke advisory effective from 4:30 p.m. Saturday until 3 p.m. Sunday in various areas due to smoke from the Round fire. Air quality index levels may reach unhealthy or higher in the impacted areas. The Coachella Valley was expected to reach a high of 111 degrees on Sunday with overnight lows around 78.
