Washington: The Union Health Ministry said 143 people in India had died of heatstroke this summer till June 20. Not only India but many countries in the world are victims of this year’s scorching sun. The heat wave is prevailing in America as well. However, it has raised many eyebrows after a six-foot-tall wax statue of former US President Abraham Lincoln melted in Washington DC.

The upper part of the 6-foot-tall wax statue was melted and sunk. The neck part has completely bent backwards. Many parts of this statue, built under the open sky, have been weathered and damaged.

It is being said that DC’s temperature rose to three digits (Fahrenheit) over the weekend. Due to the extreme heat, the statue’s head detached, followed by the legs, leaving only the intact torso. The chair supporting the figure also sank into the ground.

The damaged head of the Lincoln Memorial Statue is currently being repaired. The wire at the neck of the statue is also ruined, which is being fixed.

This wax statue, created by Virginia-based artist Sandy Williams-IV was a functional candle. The memorial is located on the grounds of Garrison Elementary School, which was once the site of Camp Barker, a Civil War-era refugee camp. However, this is not the first time the artwork has encountered melting issues.
