The Himachal Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) submitted a memorandum to Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on June 26th, demanding an NIA probe into the recent murder of Manohar Lal in Chamba. The opposition party demanded swift action and a fast track court trial to bring justice to Lal’s family, who was found dead on June 8th.
Musafir Hussian, the uncle of the girl that Manohar Lal was in a relationship with, is the primary accused in the case. The body of Manohar Lal was discovered in a drain in Bandal panchayat of Salooni subdivision in Chamba district, and it had been dismembered into eight pieces.
The BJP claims that the investigation into the murder is insufficient and requires a higher level of scrutiny. They further stated that the murder has prompted widespread concern in Chamba, and the only solution is for the NIA to intervene.
The BJP’s demand for an NIA probe comes amidst growing concerns among political leaders who believe that the state government is failing to address rising law and order problems. The Chamba murder is just the latest in a series of incidents that have raised questions about the government’s ability to maintain law and order in the state of Himachal Pradesh.
