Senate Passes Bill for Exponential Raise in Judges’ Salaries, Nigeria

The senate has passed a bill seeking to increase the salaries and allowances of judges at all levels. The legislation, which represents a 300 percent increase, will ensure the chief justice of Nigeria earns N64 million annually. The president of the court of appeal will be entitled to N62.4 million, and justices of the supreme court will earn N61.4 million. The bill also makes provision for the retirement of judicial officers, with Senator Mohammed Monguno highlighting the long-overdue update to judges’ pay packages. This move aims to promote justice and fairness in the country’s judicial processes.
