PUNE: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderous weather with rainfall in patches during the evening till June 7 and a reduction in the city’s day temperature.

Since monsoons are expected to arrive in the next three to four days in the city, the daytime temperature is likely to hover between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius.

The Shivajinagar and Lohegaon observatories recorded 36.6°C each, which was above normal by 1.3°C on Sunday.

The Met officials said the fall in the day’s temperature would be primarily due to premonsoon situations.

Currently, the humidity level has gone up in the city, and people are experiencing uncomfortable nights. After rainfall and a fall in the day’s temperatures, this scenario is expected to change, said a Met official.

Meanwhile, favourable conditions are developing for the further advancement of the southwest monsoon.

Anupam Kashyapi, the former head of the forecast division of the IMD, Pune, told TOI, Last year, the situation was different. It had covered Kerala on June 8, and the subsequent progress was not impressive. As a result, it reached Maharashtra about ten days late. It affected the entire farming activity of the Kharif season in the state. This year, its progress is on the right track.

A senior official from the IMD said, The moisture level has enhanced over the state, and the clouds are also developing. The impact of this water phenomenon will be evident in the next two days.

It will arrive first in the coastal region of Konkan. As per our assessment, the monsoon will cover Maharashtra by June 6, which is one day in advance, the official added.

The meeting officials also predicted an enhancement of the pre-monsoon activity in the next two days.

The chances of cloudy conditions and rainfall are very high in Madhya Maharashtra, including Pune district, in the next two to three days, the official added.

Farmers have started preparing their fields, said officials from the state agriculture department. Seeds have been made available to farmers adequately this year to achieve average sowing during the Kharif season. The rainfall is the key, as many districts are currently reeling under a water crisis, said the officials.
