The West Bengal State Election Commission (WBSEC) has once again written to the Union Home Minister seeking the immediate requisitioning of the remaining 485 companies of the central armed forces personnel for the upcoming three-tier panchayat polls. According to sources, the SEC aims to deploy 822 companies of central armed forces for the elections, in line with what was ensured in the 2013 rural civic body polls. Currently, 337 companies of central armed forces have already arrived, but the communication from the Union home ministry on requisitioning the remaining 485 companies is still awaited. In a meeting with the Governor, the state election commissioner assured him of the effective deployment of central forces in all polling stations. The panchayat poll is scheduled for July 8, and the counting will be on July 11. So far, ten people have died in poll-related violence in the last 17 days since the poll was announced on June 8.
