FNB Wanderers Rugby Club barely managed to hang on for a draw against FNB Rehoboth Rugby Club during their recent match. Although Wanderers remains the only unbeaten team this season, they needed a late try and conversion from 36-year-old veteran Eugene Jantjies to level the scored at 25-25 and secure the draw. Rehoboth had led 20-10 at halftime but failed to capitalize on the opportunity to defeat a top-half team.
The draw cost Wanderers one log position, dropping them to second, and pushed the Red Bulls down two positions to sixth place. The race for the fourth spot ahead of the semi-finals is still wide open.
Although Wanderers had some significant injury issues with several key players absent or injured, Driaan Vorster and Ethan Koopman managed to score a try each. Meanwhile, Edward Drotsky and Dolano Vries scored two tries for Rehoboth to take the lead initially.
Although Wanderers showed their fighting spirit, converting the late try and securing the draw, it remains to be seen if they can continue their unbeaten run this season. Meanwhile, Rehoboth will be kicking themselves for missing out on such a great opportunity to beat one of the top teams in the league.
In other matches, FNB Unam managed to win their game against FNB Reho Falcon, while FNB Western Suburbs defeated FNB Grootfontein. Additionally, FNB Kudus regained their top spot with a win against Trustco United. With the playoff spots still up for grabs, the race for the top four continues in the FNB Rugby Club league.
