A Sydney council has decided to ban same-sex parenting books from local libraries, in a move that triggered massive anger by some while liked by religious people.
The decision to ban same-sex books from local libraries, according to local media, came under terms of safety of our children.
Cumberland City Council in western Sydney agreed last week on a new strategy for its eight council-run libraries, which stated that the council to take immediate action torid same-sex parents’ books and materials from all libraries.
According to The Guardian, the amendment was proposed by the former mayor and current councillor Steve Christo, who complained about gaining really disturbing constituent complaints from families about the presence of the Same-Sex Parents book written by Holly Duhig.
Christou said: We’re going to make it clear tonight that … these kind of books, same-sex parents books, don’t find their way to our kids.
He maintained: Our kids shouldn’t be sexualised.
Some social media users were angered by the decision to remove same-sex books from local libraries in Sydney describing the decision as a restriction of freedoms, meanwhile, others accused the Cumberland City Council of being homophobic against the LGBTQ+ community in Australia.
