Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has confirmed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has promised to take all possible steps to bring normalcy back to the state. Following a meeting with Shah in New Delhi, Singh stated that his government had been able to control the violence to a great extent in the past week under the close supervision of Shah. He also urged stakeholders within the region to cooperate in an effort to ensure ongoing peace. Since ethnic violence began on May 3, leading to over 120 deaths and widespread destruction and looting, this was Singh’s second visit to New Delhi to hold meetings with central ministers and leaders. Political parties and organisations in reiteration have been calling for either the imposition of President’s rule or his removal from post.
