The Naga National Political Groups (NNPG) has raised concerns over the actions of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM) in relation to the recent violence in Manipur. Specifically, the NNPG has questioned the wisdom of the NSCN-IM regarding various issues regarding the Indo-Naga political problem. Notably, the NNPG criticized the decision of Tangkhul village chiefs and Meiteis to jointly defend the territorial integrity of Manipur state, stating that it exposes the falsehood of claims that the Tangkhuls belong to a separate entity. According to the NNPG, the Agreed Position signed between WC, NNPGs and GoI on 17th Nov. 2017 becomes even more relevant under such circumstances, as it is anchored on historical and practical reality. The NNPG has also criticized the NSCN-IM’s statements on ‘Land, water and people’ and other issues including ‘Use of violent tactics to hide weakness,’ ‘Wounded past scripted the present,’ ‘Economic toll on Nagaland’ and ‘Ethno-religious madness in Manipur.’ Overall, the NNPG has called for a more nuanced approach to resolving the Indo-Naga political problem, with a focus on building consensus and addressing the root causes of conflict.
