Maharashtra Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha stated on Sunday that the situation in Mumbai due to heavy rainfall and waterlogging is under control. According to Lodha, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s war room is operating 24/7 and has received 1,200 calls in the last 24 hours, with immediate action taken. Another war room is present in Parel, which has received 300 calls. Lodha further informed that forces have been deployed in areas where there are chances of landslides. The Minister also discussed incidents of tree-felling in Malad and Ghatkopar, for which immediate assistance was provided via the war room. Falling of trees is natural during the rains, and the authorities are clearing roads and making traffic and the overall situation normal.
In regards to the Ghatkopar East building collapse incident, the rescue team reached the spot on time and rescued everyone. The Minister stressed that it was inappropriate to blame anyone and emphasized the need to work together.
The southwest monsoon has covered the whole of Maharashtra, including Mumbai and has arrived in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and parts of Haryana, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Jammu, according to the IMD on Sunday. The monsoon is active now, and it will move forward in the next two days, covering other parts as well, says Dr. Mrityunjay Mohapatra from IMD.
Authorities are on high alert and taking serious measures to cope with the rainfall. Life Guards and Coastal Guards have been deployed on the seashore of Mumbai, and three NDRF teams and two additional teams have been deployed in landslide-prone areas. It is essential to take all measures necessary to prevent any mishaps during the monsoon season, which can cause grave damage in the vulnerable parts of the country.
