London, 29 April — Europe’s largest fertiliser producer Yara experienced a notable increase in European gas consumption in the first quarter of the year, according to the company’s latest quarterly report. While European gas consumption rose by 26% compared to the previous year, it was significantly lower than the levels seen in the second half of 2023. Yara’s global production output also demonstrated growth, reaching 1.74 million tonnes in the first quarter, up from 1.38 million tonnes a year earlier. Despite lower European gas consumption in the first quarter compared to the previous three months, Yara’s operational resilience and flexibility have remained key priorities for the company, ensuring continued production while consuming less gas. The firm continues to navigate challenges in the European fertiliser market, including increased pressure from large volumes of imports from Russia. As Yara focuses on enhancing production efficiency and exploring global opportunities, it anticipates further growth in the coming years.
