Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Nana Patole has expressed determination to bring the Congress to power in Maharashtra by winning with a bigger margin than they did in Karnataka. Speaking at the Mahanirdhar 2024 meeting in Sangli, Patole accused the BJP of using gods and goddess only to seek votes in elections, and then insulting them once elections are over. He cited an example of Lord Ram and Lord Hanuman, who he said had returned BJP’s favour in Karnataka only to be insulted in the movie Adipurush. He also recalled how posters insulting Lord Vitthala have been put up throughout temple town Pandarpur in Maharashtra.

Patole accused the ruling Shiv Sena-BJP government of insulting both gods and people by failing to remove the posters insulting Lord Vitthala. He went on to criticize the BJP for terminating jobs and reservations without due cause, and for failing to fulfil their promise to give reservation to the Dhangar community in 2019. He contrasted this with the action taken by the Congress-led governments in states like Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, and Himachal Pradesh, which have implemented schemes benefitting farmers and resolved issues of employment.

Patole’s remarks come as the Congress aims to win power in the state of Maharashtra. With the state currently under the rule of the Shiv Sena-BJP coalition, Congress’ victory would come as a significant political shift in the region. Maharashtra has been on high alert recently due to rising Covid-19 cases, leading to a surge of protests, rallies and gatherings being organized by various political parties. The situation remains uncertain, as nobody knows how the pandemic will evolve over the coming months. Nonetheless, the Congress seems determined to take advantage of this moment and campaign intensively ahead of the upcoming elections.

In conclusion, Patole’s remarks indicate that the Congress is looking to aggressively pursue power in Maharashtra. While the path ahead remains uncertain amidst ongoing Covid-19 fears, the Congress seems committed to working hard to ensure a positive outcome in the upcoming elections.
