Authorities in the Mysuru district are striving to maximise voter participation, especially targeting first-time voters in the region, which has human-animal conflict, with the assistance of forest authorities. Forest officials will deploy their men in both Mysore and Chamarajanagar Lok Sabha constituencies at polling stations, armed with the aim to facilitate electorates to vote without any fear during the upcoming elections.
DC KV Rajendra, the district election officer, revealed that this time, forest officials from Nagarahole and Bandipur Tiger Reserves, along with territorial officers, will be deployed to overcome any challenges during polling on April 26. Personnel from the Elephant Task Force and Leopard Task Force have also been enlisted for election duties.
Conservator of forests in Mysuru circle, Malathi Priya, mentioned, We have prepared a list of personnel, in compliance with the directions from Mysuru and Chamarajanagar election authorities, who will be deployed in booths located in areas experiencing human-animal conflict. Vehicles and additional resources will be provided to tackle any challenges that may arise on polling day.
Efforts have been put in place to ensure voters can cast their ballots without apprehension of encountering animals such as elephants and leopards. Additionally, extended voting hours until 6 pm aim to encourage all voters, including first-time voters eager to participate in the democratic process. The Mysore constituency boasts a total of 20.9 lakh eligible voters.
