Two men have been sentenced to 30 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 15-year-old girl in Odisha. The special POCSO court in Ganjam district handed down the hefty punishment along with a fine of Rs 10,000 each to the convicts. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six months behind bars for the perpetrators. The court also recommended a compensation of Rs 12 lakh to be paid to the survivor through the District Legal Services Authority. The horrific incident took place last year when the girl was returning from a threshing yard and was abducted by the men who then assaulted her in a nearby jungle. The police took swift action, arresting the duo the same day, and have since been in judicial custody awaiting trial.
