LEXINGTON, Ky. – Live Green Lexington partnered with the Urban Forestry Division of Lexington to offer tree seedlings to the community in celebration of Earth Day. The initiative, called ‘Reforest at Home,’ aimed to encourage local residents to contribute to growing Lexington’s Tree Canopy by planting trees on their own properties. Heather Wilson from the LFUCG Urban Forestry Division emphasized the importance of private property in achieving the city’s goal of 30% tree canopy coverage. Community members were able to choose from a variety of tree seedlings and receive expert advice on which tree would best suit their home. By engaging in events like ‘Reforest at Home,’ participants not only contribute to the environment but also foster a sense of community spirit and support in tree planting efforts.
Planting trees has never been easier, and the ‘Reforest at Home’ event provided residents with the opportunity to take a proactive step towards a greener future. With the larger goal of increasing Lexington’s tree canopy coverage, initiatives like this play a crucial role in raising awareness and engaging the community in environmental conservation efforts. The availability of different tree species and expert guidance ensures that each tree planted contributes to the overall diversity and sustainability of the urban forest. As more individuals participate in such events, the city moves closer to achieving its environmental targets while also fostering a stronger sense of environmental stewardship among its residents.
