Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, took a jab at his Uttar Pradesh counterpart, Yogi Adityanath, over alleged electricity price hikes and power cuts in the state. Kejriwal questioned why electricity is not accessible in the BJP-ruled state when it is provided for free in the capital. Responding to social media complaints about power cuts in UP, Kejriwal pointed out that electricity in Delhi is provided 24/7 without cuts. He also compared his government, which he claimed consists of educated, honest professionals, to UP’s government.
Earlier this year, the Delhi Cabinet approved free electricity subsidies to residents of the city. The scheme aims to provide uninterrupted power supply to the residents of Delhi. Atishi, the Power and PWD Minister, assured residents that the government will continue to provide free electricity to them.
Kejriwal’s comments were in response to numerous posts on social media complaining about power cuts and the high cost of electricity in Uttar Pradesh. Despite the state government’s claims that they are taking measures to improve the situation, the residents are still inconvenienced by frequent power cuts and the high cost of electricity.
The comments of Delhi’s Chief Minister may further increase tensions between the two governments. However, the greater concern will be the inconvenience faced by the residents of Uttar Pradesh due to power outages. The government needs to take swift action to resolve the issue and provide uninterrupted power to the people of the state.
