The ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Kerala has dismissed claims of any involvement in the recent arrest of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief K Sudhakaran. The Communist Party suggested that the arrest of Sudhakaran was due to internal issues within the Congress party and not a plot hatched by the Chief Minister or the Communist Party.
Sudhakaran was arrested by the Crime Branch of Kerala Police on Friday for his alleged involvement in a cheating case led by controversial antique dealer Monson Mavunkal. The KPCC Chief was released the same day on bail.
The senior CPI(M) leader, A K Balan, who is also a member of the Communist party’s central committee, explained that neither the Communist Party nor the Chief Minister had any involvement in the Monson case. Instead, it is believed that Sudhakaran’s troubles stemmed from internal disagreements within the Congress.
Sudhakaran’s arrest has intensified the conflict between the Communist Party and the Congress Party, two of the state’s major political forces. While the Communist Party has asserted that it had no role in Sudhakaran’s detention, the Congress Party has refused to accept any internal issues of the party as the reason for the arrest.
The BJP, which has been attempting to expand its presence in Kerala, has not remained quiet either. The party demanded a prompt inquiry into the case, stating that it was necessary to prevent the possibility of another ‘Solar Scam,’ referring to a previous scam that had plagued the Congress Party during their tenure in the government.
In addition to the political turmoil, the Sudhakaran case has also attracted media attention. The story has dominated local headlines, with various opinions and perspectives shared under differing viewpoints.
