Assam police have arrested an individual and recovered 238 fake SIM cards from him in the district of Morigaon. The police have been conducting operations against cybercriminals and fake SIM card rackets in the area for some time now. The accused has been identified as Aminul Hoque, who was running a mobile SIM card retailer shop using fabricated and forged documents.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Samiran Baishya, the police have been conducting operations against various parts of the district to counter the large number of cybercrimes occurring in the area. He stated that the police have seized more than 4,000 SIM cards, most of which were used in cybercrimes.
Baishya also mentioned that the police had previously arrested a distributor of a mobile company and one retailer. The distributor had given around 24,000 SIM cards over the last two years. The operation to catch such criminals will continue.
The accused sold the fake SIM cards using fabricated and forged documents. He is not the only one engaging in such activities as the police have previously arrested some cybercriminals who had been using different SIM cards, PAN cards, and Aadhaar cards.
