Supreme Court has agreed to examine whether complainants / victims should also be supplied with chargesheets / final reports in a criminal case. A bench of Justices B R Gavai and Sandeep Mehta issued notice on a petition filed by a lawyer Vivek Kumar Gaurav seeking direction to authorities for free-of-cost supply of chargesheets to complainants/victims. The petitioner had approached the apex court after his plea was rejected by Delhi high court, which had in February disposed of his petition without issuing the directions sought by him.The petitioner contended that CrPC provides that a victim has right to participate in criminal proceedings initiated upon his/her complaint but there is no provision for a direction to supply chargesheet to the victim. He pleaded with the court to intervene and pass direction to pave the way for victims to take part in trial proceedings.
