WASHINGTON – An engine cover on a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-800 fell off during takeoff in Denver on Sunday, striking the wing flap and prompting an investigation by the US FAA. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the flight, carrying 135 passengers and six crew members bound for Houston, safely returned to Denver International Airport. Maintenance teams are currently reviewing the aircraft, which entered service in June 2015. Passengers eventually reached their destination in Houston, albeit delayed. Southwest declined to disclose the last maintenance check on the plane’s engine. Boeing referred inquiries back to the airline as investigations continue into the incident.
