Dune: Part Two surpasses Wonka in another major record for actor Timothée Chalamet.
Dune: Part Two box office success has set a new record for its leading star Timothée Chalamet. Directed by Denis Villeneuve and adapted from Frank Herbert’s iconic novel, the sequel has now grossed a staggering $631 million globally, solidifying its position as the top release of the year thus far.
Timothée Chalamet’s leading role in Dune: Part Two has propelled the film to surpass his previous hit movie Wonka by approximately $300,000 in global box office earnings, per Collider. This achievement solidifies Dune: Part Two as the biggest film of Chalamet’s career as a leading actor to date. Chalamet’s consecutive blockbuster for Warner Bros. came to about $1.2 billion combined in box office sales. Such remarkable success undoubtedly played a pivotal role in Warner Bros.’ decision to secure a first-look deal with him. Only Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, in which Chalamet played a supporting role, holds a higher worldwide gross.
Following the journey of Paul Atreides as he navigates the treacherous terrain of Arrakis, the film intricately weaves together themes of power, revenge, and destiny. As Paul evolves into a leader among the desert-dwelling Fremen, his quest for vengeance against the House Harkonnen reaches its zenith, propelling him towards his prophesied role as messiah.
Critically acclaimed upon its debut, Dune: Part Two boasts an impressive 93% rating from critics and a 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Steven Spielberg praised the movie, telling director Denis Villeneuve that he made one of the most brilliant science-fiction films he’s ever seen. Nolan compared the movie with The Empire Strikes Back in a glowing review.
For me, I don’t think it says too much to say that if Dune: Part One was Star Wars , this to me is very much The Empire Strikes Back, which is my favorite of the Star Wars films. I just think it’s an incredibly exciting expansion of all of the things you introduce in the first one.
