Nagpur: After nominations for the second phase of Lok Sabha polls concluded, scrutiny of poll affidavits revealed that of the 11 prominent candidates in the fray, 10 are crorepatis. The exception is Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) founder Prakash Ambedkar. Among them, seven are farmers by profession.
Leading the richie-rich club is Congress candidate Dr Abhay Patil from Akola, with assets worth ₹39.44 crore. Sanjay Deshmukh, a Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate from Yavatmal-Washim, follows closely with assets valued at ₹18.94 crore. BJP’s Navneet Rana, a former Tollywood actor, holds assets of ₹10.57 crore with high liabilities. VBA’s Prakash Ambedkar was the only non-crorepati among the top candidates.
The candidates’ financial declarations highlight the economic status of political contenders in west Vidarbha, with most of them having substantial assets. The competing candidates come from diverse backgrounds, including doctors, actors, and farmers, reflecting the varied professions in the political landscape.
