Former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, Minister for Minor Irrigation N.S. Boseraju, and senior party leader Thippannappa Kamakanur were elected unopposed to the Legislative Council by the returning officer Vishalakshi yesterday. This comes as no surprise since only three candidates remained in the fray after the withdrawal of nominations ended on Friday.
The elections were held to fill the seats that had fallen vacant following the resignation of the then-BJP members Laxman Savadi, Baburao Chinchanasur, and R. Shankar, who had quit their posts to contest the May 10 Assembly elections.
This announcement brings relief to the Congress party, as they were poised to lose the seats to the opposition. The unopposed selection of the three candidates nullified any prospect of the opposition scooping the vacant seats.
