Yashasvi Jaiswal, a young batter from Uttar Pradesh, is set to fulfill his dream of playing for India’s Test team as he heads to the Caribbean as part of the squad. Despite coming from a humble background, Jaiswal worked hard to become a professional cricketer and play for India. Jaiswal’s breakthrough moment came when he scored 319 runs and picked up 19 wickets in the Harry Shield school-level tournament, attracting media attention. He was eventually selected for India’s U19 World Cup squad in 2020, where he scored 400 runs at an average of 133.33. This performance led to him being picked by Rajasthan Royals in the auction for a sum of Rs 2.4 crore, which allowed him to buy himself a more comfortable home.
Jaiswal struggled to deliver in the Indian Premier League in previous seasons, but his excellent performance in IPL 2023, where he scored 625 runs from 14 games at an average of 48.08, helped him achieve his dream of playing for India’s Test team. MI captain Rohit Sharma, who is also the Test captain of India, was impressed by Jaiswal’s explosive opening innings of 122 off 62 balls.
Jaiswal is going to West Indies as part of the Test team to play two matches, and there are high chances of him making his debut as Cheteshwar Pujara has been dropped.
