West Bengal State Election Commissioner Rajiva Sinha has said he is always available to meet the Governor, CV Ananda Bose, despite his joining report being sent back by Bose, ahead of the upcoming panchayat election. Bose summoned Sinha to explain murders, violence, and clashes that occurred during the nomination filing process for the rural polls. Although Sinha refused to comment on the matter, officials of the State Election Commission have confirmed that Bose’s action followed Sinha’s failure to appear when summoned. Six people have died and several injured during widespread violence over the filing of nominations for the July 8 polls in West Bengal. Despite the Governor admitting that he was disappointed in Sinha’s inaction in controlling election violence, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has ruled out removing Sinha, insisting that the rural poll nomination process was peaceful.
