Construction on the Gameday Bay water park at the Hall of Fame Village in Canton is still progressing, with CEO Michael Crawford assuring that work is ongoing indoors. Despite a seeming halt in visible activity, key installations such as piping, pumps, and multi-million dollar slide equipment deliveries are actively taking place within the 147,000-square-foot complex.

Challenges have arisen in finalizing crucial funding components from various sources, causing a temporary slowdown in construction pace. Crawford cited the complex nature of securing funds from multiple entities and mentioned awaiting closure on significant capital aspects within the next month to ensure uninterrupted progress.

The $117 million project, funded through clean energy financing, bonds, and state tax credits, has faced complexities due to overlapping timelines of different financing bodies. Crawford highlighted industry-wide lending challenges and supply chain strains as additional hurdles delaying the project’s completion.

Assurances came from Mayor William V. Sherer II and Welty Building Co., the project’s general contractors, both expressing confidence in the water park’s eventual success despite temporary setbacks. Sherer emphasized the importance of the Village’s prosperity to the city and the ironworkers’ continued involvement in the project.

While the project experiences delays common in construction projects, Welty Building Co. reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with the Hall of Fame Village to see the water park to fruition. The company stressed ongoing payments and continued progress on various construction aspects not readily visible from the exterior.

As stakeholders navigate the complexities of the funding landscape and operational challenges, the focus remains on securing necessary capital and coordinating efforts for the water park’s anticipated completion. Despite uncertainties, stakeholders are optimistic that the project will regain momentum and fulfill its goal of becoming a premier football-themed destination in Canton.
