The deaths of a married couple in rural Lancaster County in November have been ruled a suicide-homicide, according to recently filed Nebraska death certificates.
JoAnn and Robert Boshart, both 62 years old, were found with gunshot wounds to the head by the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office after deputies were called to their home near Northwest 98th and West Adams streets for a welfare check on Nov. 3.
JoAnn Boshart’s death was deemed a homicide, while Robert Boshart’s death has been classified as a suicide after he succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds on Nov. 6.
Officials discovered JoAnn Boshart’s body on a bed at the scene, where she was pronounced dead. Her sister had called for a welfare check after JoAnn failed to arrive to pick up students as a bus driver for Malcolm Public Schools.
The tragic incident marked the ninth homicide case in Lincoln and Lancaster County for the year 2023. Initial suspicions arose due to unusual signs visible within the Bosharts’ home that prompted the welfare check.
Authorities clarified that surveillance footage indicated no other individuals present during the time of the incident besides the deceased couple. The Sheriff’s Office took the lead in investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic events.
While the community mourns the loss of JoAnn and Robert Boshart, no further details have been shared about the events leading up to the suicide-homicide ruling by the Nebraska death certificates. The authorities have emphasized thorough investigations to ensure all aspects of the case are considered.
