Sun Yat-sen University is located in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), and we have campuses in Guangzhou, Zhuhai, and Shenzhen, the three core cities of the GBA. This year, we will also go to Hong Kong to establish the advanced research institute. Gao Song, President of Sun Yat-sen University, revealed during an interview at the Deputies’ Passage during the second session of the 14th National People’s Congress on March 11th.
The main targets of the advanced research institute are to recruit top talents such as Nobel Prize, Turing Award, and Fields Medal winners from all over the world, build world-leading laboratories, provide conditions for R&D and transformation of the most cutting-edge technologies, and independently cultivate high-level innovative talents.
Gao said that the reason for setting up the institute in Hong Kong is to combine Guangdong’s strengths in scientific and technological innovation and industrial transformation with Hong Kong’s internationalization and cutting-edge research expertise.
The institute will help Sun Yat-sen University promote cooperation and exchanges in higher education within the GBA, promote the integrated development of science and technology, culture, and talents in the GBA, and better attract outstanding talents from all over the world to work in China, said Gao.
This year, Sun Yat-sen University will celebrate its 100th anniversary. Throughout its history, the university has produced nearly 500,000 graduates.
